Tips on Using Santé
- Person/Activity is where you enter your general weekly activity and it’s used to compute your active calories per day in the graphs and reports. Don’t duplicate this activity in Exercise/Input or you will be overstating calories expended.
- Person/Nutrients lets you specify which nutrients to display on the front screen.
- Foods, Meals, & Recipes with incomplete costs show a ? while costed show a $.
- When you add a new food to your database, be sure you have a value in "grams" (either by entering it directly or selecting a unit of measure from drop down list).
- When entering serving size in Added Foods, don’t enter quantity (e.g., enter "can" not "1 can". Enter any name and serving size you like in added foods.
- Be sure to verify the servings when adding Recipes. Recipe Scaling enlarges or reduces the size of the recipe but leaves the portion size of each serving the same.
- You can add recipes to a recipe (like a favorite sauce you use in many recipes).
- Import meals from your other dates or from some other person to simplify the data entry process for the same foods eaten. Then change quantities if needed.
- Save foods you eat often as a preference. Highlight the food in a meal and click Save Pref. Then next time you enter meals, click Pref for your list.
- By clicking on Reports or just on a graph button you can get vitamin/mineral status graph, calorie percentages pie chart, full meal report, and history graph.
- Enter your weight and activity levels in Person, then in Reports see a weight change recommendation report from your calories in (eaten) and out (burned off).
- Import additional foods off the CD-ROM (be sure it’s in your drive) from inside Meals or Recipes. Click Import Data, Find with down arrow, search and select the food, then click Copy Up. The Santé working database resides on your hard drive and is shown in the upper grid. The CD-ROM database shows on the bottom grid.
- Utilities/Import Food Data lets you delete foods off your working database and/or add additional foods from the CD-ROM database.
- If you delete or edit a food directly from the Santé database (Utilities/Edit Food Data) the meals and recipes that may have this food are not checked or recomputed. So do this with caution. A food is selected here when a triangle appears at the left side. Then Ctrl-Delete will delete the selected food.
- You can backup your data to floppy with File/Backup/Restore. Data on the floppy is encrypted, compressed and unreadable except by the restore routine in Santé. Restore overwrites all Santé data files, so use this feature with caution.
