In Memoriam
In memory of Arthur Hackbarth who died one year ago, December 15, at Leyte in the service of his country. Our home tonight is lonely, the reason you can see. For our thoughts are slowly going far across the deep blue sea. On the tenth day of December, the lonely message read: "Your son is wounded seriously." Yes, that is what it said. Oh, how we longed to be with him, to kiss his aching brow; to tell him how we loved him, too, more so than ever, now. On the 15th of December came more lines that didn't seem true - "Your soldier son will not come back, no, he'll never come home to you." So that's why our hearts are sad tonight, as our thoughts go over the sea. To a lone white cross and a soldier's grave, who died for you and me. - Sadly missed by parents - Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Hackbarth, Hazel and Irene.
