Herbalist 2 Problems

1. Doesn't install properly - Need to install through Explorer. (see below)

2. No Sound (Sound Blaster Pro) - need to get latest drivers for the sound card. Microsoft came out with new specs for 8-bit boards to get 16-bit sound.

3. Program stops working during operation - defective disk? Replace disk

4. Text does not display - check background (black-on-white or white-on-black?)

5. Error Message "Application Error M-Viewer 2 caused general protection fault in Module 256_1024.DRV at 0007OB44." Problem with Cirrus Logic video drivers in Packard Bell computers (Sold at Sears). Have customer call 800-733-4411 (Packard Bell tech/support)

6. Error Message "Viewer Setup Causes Error in SYMTAB11.C Please report File='COMMON\SYMTAB11.C', Line='616' to Microsoft Product Support Services". You can avoid this error by capitalizing the PATH statement in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Alternatively you can intsll manually as shown below

Unable to create "Bookmark". Go to Windows Directory and delete VIEWER.BMK file, which has become corrupted.

8. Printing from text stops after a few pages. Does not print all of text. No solution - try copying desired text to clipboard and printing from there. This will not be a problem with next revision.

Problem: The Herbalist setup fails and says please report to Microsoft Product Support Services. Or a cryptic message (perhaps about not enought memory) is displayed and stops the install.

 To install manually:

Manual Install of Herbalist (a Microsoft Viewer Title) which will not automatically install.
  1. Place the CD in the CDROM drive.
  2. Go to Explore (right click Start button, click Explore)
  3. Find the CDROM drive (If the Herbalist disc is in it will show Herbal2)
  4. Double Click Herbal2 - you will see a folder called Herbal
  5. Click on this folder
  6. Find a file called mviewer2 in the file list
  7. Right click on that file and select Send To >> Desktop (as shortcut)
  8. Now, close your windows and find the new icon on the desktop called Shortcut to Mviewer2.exe.
  9. Right click on that, find and select Properties
  10. Click on the Shortcut Tab - Find Target which will have D:\HERBAL\MVIEWER2.EXE in it assuming your CDROM drive is D:
  11. At the end of that, add a space and then type d:\herbal\herbal.mvb so that the final box contains: D:\HERBAL\MVIEWER2.EXE d:\herbal\herbal.mvb
  12. Click OK.
  13. Right Click the desktop icon again, select Rename and name it Herbal
Thereafter, double-clicking on that icon will start the program provided the CD-ROM is in the indicated CDROM drive.
